Vision and Ethos

Our Vision and Ethos:

At the heart of everything we do at Ely St. John’s is the ‘EJ Way’.  Its statements embody the values, attitudes and behaviour that we feel create a foundation for life-long learning and responsible citizenship.

The EJ Way

We are excited to learn new things.

We know how to share thoughts and feelings.

We look after each other.

We are proud to work together.

We are kind to ourselves.

At Ely St. John’s we aim to ensure that all children have equal access to broad, balanced, relevant and stimulating teaching underpinned by a nurturing, therapeutic approach in which every child and adult feels valued, safe and secure.  We believe in the importance of learning outdoors as well as indoors and recognise the fragility of our environment and our role as guardians for future generations.  Throughout everything we do, we are proud to say that we promote social, spiritual, cultural and moral development actively in all areas of school life, with the overall purpose of preparing our pupils for life in today’s modern society.  We have high, but realistic expectations of each child, aiming to develop enquiring minds and skills of independence alongside encouraging children to take responsibility for their learning and behaviour.

Ultimately, our relentless focus is on creating a school where people wish to be and belong.
