History
Principles of our History curriculum:
- To inspire pupils’ curiosity and excitement - for pupils to want to know more about the past.
- To help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past, our local area through history and that of the wider world.
- To help pupils to understand how people’s lives have changed over time.
- To enable pupils to understand and engage with the past and to consider what life would have been like in different periods.
- To develop pupils’ understanding of inspirational individuals from the past.
- To develop pupil’s understanding of the legacy left by different periods of history - significant events, individuals, inventions and discoveries
- To equip pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement.
Impact of our Curriculum:
Children will be able to make sense of the way that life in Britain and in other societies have changed over time, by asking questions and making observations and using technical vocabulary to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding.
Children will be equipped with knowledge about Britain’s past and that of the wider world. Teaching will enable children to develop their questioning and research skills. The curriculum will ensure that children understand the way that the process of change has affected peoples’ lives, societies and activities.
Children will begin to piece together the way different periods in history have contributed to the way they live and what they see and experience today. They will experience the past through reconstruction; use different types of evidence to piece together their understanding and learn in time to see the influence of different periods of history when considering their own lives and where they live.
