British Science Week 2025
This week, the children have been celebrating British Science Week, learning all about famous astronauts and the work they do. They have been writing their own biographies about the astronauts using information we have found out together. We also had a look at some of the technology used in science and discussed and sorted the items into things we have inside our houses, and things that are not from inside our houses. The children have also had an assembly all about British Science Week, with a focus on how things 'change and adapt.' They had lots of fun watching an experiment with baking powder and vinegar, predicting and observing how the baking powder changes when the vinegar is poured on it. We discovered that it bubbles and fizzes!

World Book Day!
We have enjoyed celebrating World Book Day this week; everybody enjoyed seeing all of the children's wonderful costumes! They have enjoyed reading lots of books and telling us about their favourite books and authors. It was lovely to have parents join us in the afternoon to read with their children.

Whatever Next!
In foundation, the children have loved learning about space, reading the story Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy. They have been busy writing lists of what they would take with them to the moon, drawing and labelling their own rockets and astronauts and writing their own versions of the story! They have made rockets from junk modelling resources, and have learnt all about different planets in our solar system.

Children's Mental Health Week 2025
This year, the theme for Children's Mental Health Week is 'Know Yourself, Grow Yourself'. The children have been learning about and discussing all of the different ways they are special and unique. They have created some lovely flowers that show all these different things, and together have learnt that we are all different to each other and that's what makes us special! They have been exploring different emotions and what makes them feel them, learning about the different ways they can make themselves feel better, and who the special people around them are that they can talk to.

Lunar New Year celebration
We have really enjoyed celebrating Lunar New Year this week. The children learnt all about the celebration, reading stories and making lanterns, dragons, cards and envelopes, making sure to use lots of red as this is a lucky colour. They even received a special chocolate coin inside their envelopes at the end of the day! The children really enjoyed trying some noodles with soy sauce, as this is a dish eaten at Lunar New Year. Enjoy looking through the photos below of our Lunar New Year celebrations!

Interviews!
Over the past few weeks, the children in foundation have been busy interviewing different staff members, finding out information about their jobs at Ely St John's. We had lots of interesting questions asked by the children including, "what do you do at school?" and "what do you do at home?" The classes also went on a tour of the school and found out more information about different members of staff, and got to look at their classrooms and work spaces. The children were so good at thinking of different questions that they also interviewed each other to find out information!
